While Qualia may be Hamilton island’s most famous property — mainly because Oprah stayed there — I had the pleasure of spending two nights at the very relaxing Reef View Hotel. The property offers such a variety of entertainment that visitors almost don’t need to leave.
The Reef View Hotel features 364 well-appointed rooms, all with private balconies that overlook either landscaped gardens or the Coral Sea. The Garden View rooms are beautiful, but I recommend booking clients into rooms with a view of the sea. There is nothing like waking up to find cockatoos perched on your balcony with the Coral Sea below.
For the most space, the upper-most floors of the hotel feature 18 suites. All suites face the sea and have balconies complete with outdoor furniture. Reef suites offer one king-size bed or two queen-size beds. The rooms are two stories with the bedroom on the second floor and a large living area and a kitchenette on the first floor. There is a separate bathroom downstairs as well as a balcony on each level.
Family rooms also offer extra space and include a room with two queen-size beds and a connecting junior room with two single beds. Coral Sea View rooms feature either a king-size bed or two queens, and Garden View rooms offer two queen beds.
While the hotel is across the road from the water, there is beach access and guests have the use of non-motorized watersports as well as a beach restaurant. The hotel also has a pool, a gym with a roster of fitness classes, a sauna and a Jacuzzi. There are tennis and squash courts, too. Golf and spa treatments are available off site and can be arranged with the concierge or at the tour desk.
While room rates include access to the gym, Jacuzzi and sauna, suite guests also receive roundtrip transfers from the marina or the airport, a daily newspaper and a daily buffet breakfast.
