Tropical Touch

A Fiji staple gets a new look

Situated in the tropical surrounds of Pacific Harbour between Suva and Nadi in Fiji, The Pearl South Pacific, now 35 years old, has recently undergone some upgrades. Over the past couple of years, The Pearl has updated the decor of its rooms with white backgrounds interlaced with rich browns, reds and creams, finished with leather and wood accents. And later this year, The Pearl also plans to open a spa along with a state-of-the-art gym.

All six of the penthouse suites have also been renovated, and each offers its own distinct feel ranging from Asian-inspired design to more tropical touches. Suites are located at one wing of the hotel to offer clients, many of whom are honeymooners, added seclusion.

For guests who wish to enjoy Fiji’s great outdoors, the beachside property offers a variety of free activities, including snorkeling and windsurfing. The Pearl’s front yard is also home to several companies offering diving, kayaking and village visits for a fee.

For those who don’t mind teeing off in Fiji’s humid climate, The Pearl also features The Pearl South Pacific Championship Golf Course, an 18-hole, par 72 golf course designed by Robert Trent Jones Junior.

As for dining, the Beach Bar and BBQ offers a casual, social atmosphere that extends to an outdoor lounge; guests can also lunch poolside at the Bistro. For a more candlelit setting, the contemporary Mantarae Restaurant features a variety of fresh seafood and an ample wine list paired with views of the Pacific.

While the resort boasts the Moroccan-style night club, Giselle’s, a more popular option is to taste cocktails in the open-air ambience of the Foyer Bar, where plush, purple couches are paired with chairs and a wall of water acts as the bar’s backdrop.

The Pearl is also equipped for events and conferences. The Events Bure, about a five-minute walk from the main building, overlooks a lily-filled pond and can seat groups of 10 to 100.

While The Pearl is wired for Internet, getting online at the hotel and Fiji in general isn’t always reliable. But for clients who come to relax, sometimes it’s best to be disconnected.
