From Sept. 25-28, the American Society of Travel Agents (ASTA) held its annual Global Convention at Peppermill Resort Hotel in Reno, Nev. The conference brought together nearly 800 travel advisors for four days of educational sessions, networking opportunities, a trade show and general sessions that included a keynote address from retired airline pilot and aviation safety consultant Chesley “Sully” Sullenberger.
New announcements included the plan to expand national ASTA chapters from 26 to 36; to add six new premium members in 2017; and to increase funding for consumer outreach and awareness.
“ASTA has made some great progress over the past few years,” said Roger Block, president of Travel Leaders Network and outgoing ASTA chairman of the board. “The board has tackled issues, including how to recharge and grow our numbers. The number of members in all categories is growing, and the relationship with suppliers is as strong as I’ve ever seen it.”
