Air New Zealand Whisks Away Giants Fans

Jul 23, 2013
On July 19, Giants fans Thuy Thi Li and Kim Dang attended a ballgame at AT&T Park and tweeted why they thought they should be chosen for Air New Zealand’s “Giant New Zealand Weekend.” At the bottom of the first inning, they were announced the winners and immediately departed on a whirlwind trip to New Zealand, including an overnight flight to Auckland, a helicopter ride over stunning landscapes, a gourmet lunch and a visit to Waiheke Island for wine tasting and ziplining.

"This was truly a giant weekend experience I will never forget. From the breathtaking views of Auckland atop the Sky Tower, the serene atmosphere of Huka Lodge in Taupo, the wild and crazy ziplining adventure on Waiheke Island, and the magnificent wineries dotted throughout, New Zealand truly has something for everybody,” Thi Li said.

According to Air New Zealand chief executive officer Christopher Luxon, San Francisco is an important market for the company.

"Market research shows Americans tend to overestimate the amount of time it takes to get to New Zealand. The reality is that it's a comfortable 12-hour overnight flight. You can jump onboard, enjoy a great meal of New Zealand food and wine, go to sleep and wake up in Auckland. The Air New Zealand 'Giant New Zealand Weekend' was the perfect way to show San Franciscans how accessible New Zealand is,” Luxon said.

The Giants and Air New Zealand have partnered in order to promote New Zealand to Northern Californians. Air New Zealand offers daily flights between San Francisco and Auckland, as well as a range of flights that connect travelers to other destinations in New Zealand, Australia and the Pacific Isla
