On May 9 in Bremen, Germany, Crystal Cruises hosted a steel-cutting ceremony for the luxury brand’s newbuild river vessels, marking the beginning of production for the river-faring fleet. In addition to the refreshed Crystal Mozart, which debuts in July, newbuild vessels Crystal Bach, Crystal Debussy, Crystal Mahler and Crystal Ravel, along with two vessels that have yet to be named, are set to begin service as early as 2017.
Tan Sri Lim Kok Thay, chairman and CEO for Genting Hong Kong — parent company of Crystal — was in attendance, in addition to executives from Crystal and Lloyd Werft. Edie Rodriguez, CEO and president of Crystal, made the first cut with the steel-cutting machine.
“This seemingly simple act was an absolute thrill, as it represents a very important milestone in the growth of the Crystal brand,” she said. “It was my honor to stand with the leaders of our wonderful parent company and the acclaimed Lloyd Werft shipyard.”
