G Adventures has reached out to its female staff for a personal and professional development meeting that considers the topic of women’s leadership. The eight-day event, called G Women’s Leadership Camp (GWLC), brought together 18 staff members from around the world, including the countries Africa, Germany, Australia, Canada and the U.S.
“Our goal for the week was to further discuss how we can develop and become better leaders; and how we can help other women to do the same,” said Amanda Chew, director of global talent for G Adventures.
Participants were chosen based on their responses to a video or written application which asked them what woman leader they admired most and why. The women represent various areas of the company as well as many of G Adventures’ worldwide offices.
“This week has been all about exploring both the challenges and the opportunities that exist for women,” says Cyndi Zesk, vice president of global marketing and U.S. general manager. “We asked ourselves ‘why should we host a leadership camp for women? Is that the right thing to do?’ And the answers were things such as: it is imperative to have a stronger female voice at the table so, as a team, we are making more well-balanced and well-rounded decisions. We also strongly believe that creating more leadership among women today will help tomorrow's generation of both females and males become stronger and better leaders themselves.”
Bruce Poon Tip, founder of G Adventures, came up with the idea for GWLC at the company’s annual G-Stock meeting as one way the company can live its core values, such as Do the Right Thing and Create Happiness and Community.
The event took place in Northern California and included activities throughout San Francisco, Napa Valley and Son
