Macau Government Tourist Office (MGTO) held a reception dinner on Oct. 29 at Taglyan Complex in Los Angeles to celebrate the 15th anniversary of Macau’s handover to China. Guests enjoyed a three-course meal of Macanese food prepared by Chef Pascal Olhats, chef and owner of Cafe Jardin, as well as a raffle and updates on the region.
Macau, which became a special administrative region of the People’s Republic of China in 1999, has continued to grow as a tourist destination: Worldwide visitors in 2013 exceeded 29 million. More than 175,000 of these visitors were Americans.
“MGTO is delighted today to celebrate the 15th anniversary of Macau's handover to China,” says Al Merschen, general manager of MGTO in the U.S. “Over the centuries, Macau has developed a unique cuisine that combines elements of Portuguese and Chinese cooking with some Indian and African spices, tracing the roots of ‘fusion cuisine’ back well over 400 years. This meal is inspired from Chef Pascal's trip to Macau in August to discover the culture and culinary aspects of what Macau offers as a destination.”
