Sandals Resorts International’s philanthropic organization, The Sandals Foundation, recently launched its yearly Christmas Treat program, in partnership with Hasbro, Inc. The holiday cheer began on Dec. 8 at the Roehamton Basic School in St. James, Montego Bay, Jamaica, where students enjoyed arts and crafts, snacks and a visit from Santa Claus who was bearing brand-new Hasbro toys and games. This event was the first of more than 60 Christmas Treats planned to take place throughout the Caribbean during the season.“The treats go a long way in helping thousands of individuals across the Caribbean,” said Heidi Clarke, director of programs for the Sandals Foundation. “Especially during the holidays, it is our responsibility to be there for our neighbors and for our communities, to help make a difference and bring a smile to those who may otherwise not have a reason to enjoy this special time of the year. Whether it is giving a toy to a child who would normally go without or sharing a special lunch with the elderly, the Sandals Foundation is committed to bringing cheer to those less fortunate.”The children’s gifts were the result of the annual Toy Drive, which raises funds to purchase the gifts. For every $10 donation, Hasbro contributed a toy. Sandals was able to raise enough funds for more than 10,000 new toys and games as well as a series of seasonal celebrations to underserved children from Sandals’ adopted schools, community institutions and infirmaries in Jamaica, Antigua, Saint Lucia, The Bahamas and Turks and Caicos.
