Members and supporters of Southern california American Society of Travel Agents (SoCal ASTA) convened Jan. 17 at The Beverly Hills Hotel for the organization’s 80th anniversary and annual Diamond Awards gala. Miriam Rand and Jerry Healy received this year’s Diamond Awards. Healy, who passed away last year, was remembered for his 50-plus-year career in the travel industry and particularly for his contributions to Pleasant Holidays, where he served as vice president of sales. Rand was honored for her illustrious career as a travel agent, which took off after opening an agency in Beverly Hills, Calif., in 1946.
SoCal ASTA named Julie Johnson of Azzurro Travel as the Elaine Kirchner Travel Agent of the Year and Nancy Iovino of Paul Gauguin Cruises as the Allied Member of the Year. Princess Cruises accepted the Compass Award for its OneSource Academy education program. Alex Sharpe and the Signature Travel Network board and ASTA chairman Roger Block and the Travel Leaders board received the Advocate of the Year Award for their work in support of ASTA.
