Mexico’s annual tourism trade show, Tianguis Turistico, welcomed approximately 670 national and international buyers as well as representatives from the country’s 32 states last month. According to Puebla governor Rafael Moreno Valle, the event surpassed expectations, registering nearly 26,290 business meetings and successfully promoting Mexico’s tourist destinations on a global scale.
“This Tianguis is historic,” said Mexico’s secretary of tourism Claudia Ruiz Massieu at a press conference. “We’ve never had so many different countries represented, and there are more buyers here than ever before.”
Puebla also set a new benchmark as the event’s first-ever colonial venue.
“This is the first time that Tianguis was not held in a beach destination, and we hear that it was a good decision,” said Ruiz Massieu.
The Mexico Tourism Board projects that the total economic impact of Tianguis will be more than $14 million. Next year’s Tianguis will take place in Quintana Roo, followed by Acapulco in 2015.
