For an authentic take on the Texas two-step, head over to Broken Spoke in Austin, Texas. Austin may be a bustling capital city, but after setting foot in Broken Spoke, which is known to locals as the last true dance hall in the Lone Star State, I couldn't help but feel as if I was transported back to the days of the wild, Wild West.
The venue, located about 20 minutes from downtown Austin, offers lessons in both two-step and swing dancing from Wednesday to Saturday, as well as live music from Tuesday to Saturday between 6 and 8 p.m. Even if you have two left feet (like me), the ample seating at Broken Spoke makes it a great place to go for a piece of chicken-fried steak and an evening among friends. The on-site restaurant is also open for lunch and dinner daily.
