Introduction and History

American Cruise Lines' fifth small ship, the 100-passenger Independence, debuted in 2010. Built at the company's Chesapeake Shipbuilding in Salisbury, Maryland, the Independence is part of ACL's fleet of U.S.-flagged ships that operate along the East and West coasts, plus inland rivers and Alaska. The Independence's two close sister-ships, the American Star and American Spirit, both carry 100 passengers.
