On Aug. 26, Tourism Australia hosted its annual industry update to provide an overview of the market and the organization’s plans for the coming year. The event — held at Westdrift Manhattan Beach, an Autograph Collection hotel in Los Angeles — began with tea and Aussie snacks such as meat pies and fairy bread. An engaging presentation from economist Alan Beaulieu of ITR Economics offered an in-depth overview of the macro-economic environment in North America and its impact on consumer spending, particularly on long-haul travel.
Beaulieu’s talk was followed by updates from Tourism Australia staff including Chris Allison, head of commercial partnerships for the Americas; Mary Anne McDonald, business events manager for the Americas; Lisa Verbeck, director of marketing for the Americas; and Robin Mack, head of global distribution development and partnerships.
