Crowning a 600-acre estate reminiscent of an English country house, this former Orient Express hotel was pushed into the limelight by Sir Bernard Ashley, widower of Laura Ashley, whose over-the-top floral designs have been phased out with a tasteful renovation.
Now in the hands of the regional Riverside Group, with siblings that include the Hermitage in Nashville and spectacular Sea Pines Resort, guest rooms have received a much-needed makeover without alienating the old guard.
