I just returned from Cancun, Mexico, where I toured nine resorts in two days from Playa Mujeres to Riviera Maya. I wanted to review each resort’s COVID-19 health protocols and get a feel for the vacation experience during the pandemic. I posted about my experiences on Facebook and Instagram, and I was stunned by how many folks contacted me asking, “Can we travel to Mexico?” or “Are Americans allowed to travel?”
I think travel advisors can take for granted that we live and breathe travel updates and reopenings. We forget that many of our clients (or potential clients) may not actually have those news stories on their social media feeds, or they just assume everything is closed.
I realized that I need to be an ambassador of travel updates and country reopenings.
This is a great opportunity. While there was plenty of space on the beaches and at the pools to be physically distant, there also were many Americans having a fabulous time on vacation. They are either someone’s clients, or (gasp!) they booked direct. I realized that I need to be an ambassador of travel updates and country reopenings.
There are many people itching to get out and celebrate that anniversary, take that belated honeymoon or just simply get away. The importance of sharing my travel experiences has been elevated, and I am more inspired than ever to get out, travel and spread the word.
