Registration for the American Society of Travel Advisors’ (ASTA)Legislative Day in Washington, D.C., is underway, and advisors from specific states are especially needed.

The event — which takes place Oct. 6–8 — gives agents a united platform to advance policies that support the advisor career. States that need representation include Alaska, Arkansas, Delaware, Indiana, Maine, Mississippi, Montana, Nebraska, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, South Carolina, South Dakota, Vermont and West Virginia.

Our Analysis: Travel Advisors Can Affect Government Policy

Legislative Day gives advisors the chance to meet face-to-face with lawmakers on Capitol Hill to advocate for themselves and their businesses. Advisors will feel empowered to make their voice heard on policies that directly affect them. In addition to learning how to conduct successful meetings, advisors receive training on advocacy and advice on how to follow up with elected officials.

Fast Facts: ASTA’s Advocacy Efforts

- Over the next two months, ASTA will continue to evaluate the state of the travel advisor industry to determine the most impactful policy issues to take to Capitol Hill.

- As part of the process of selecting topics, ASTA will survey members and examine administrative policies that affect global travel.

- Last year’s Legislative Day saw 228 attendees from 43 states conducting 206 Congressional meetings.
