In case you missed it, last month TravelAge West commemorated its 50th anniversary with a special issue. We are all very proud of the work we did on that issue, and it has been especially gratifying to hear from readers who appreciated our look back at the travel industry in the West over the past half-century.
I’ve decided to share some of the comments below that are representative of what we’ve heard from the industry.
A supplier wrote: “I just wanted to drop you a note of congratulations on the big 50th anniversary. The issue was an instant classic. I particularly enjoyed the walk down memory lane of travel — what an archive of travel events. Here’s to another 50 years!”
A longtime California advisor had a suggestion for us: “I just wanted to tell you that I loved this issue. It brought back so many memories and reminded me of some of the people who have helped me along my path as a travel advisor. I was a bit disappointed, however, that you didn’t have more on Ed and Lynn Hogan. They were really the founders of tourism in Hawaii.”
Another agent shared her appreciation for the brand’s mission throughout its history: “The vision for TravelAge West was a trade magazine for West Coast agents — so that we were not just an add-on to all things East Coast. For instance, at the time, we were so frustrated that almost every tour that included air only featured fares from the East. TravelAge West really was the bible in the West.”
We appreciate all your remarks, and we’re happy to think that we brought back some fond memories. There were several fun items we couldn’t get into that special issue, so be on the lookout for more classic tidbits throughout the rest of this year. And if you have a comment you would like to share about our anniversary issue or anything else, write to [email protected].
