Alii Kai catamaran in Waikiki recently launched the Hukilau Dinner Cruise, a new option on its popular sunset cruise.
The seafood feast is inspired by a time-honored Hawaiian tradition known as the hukilau, a day of fishing, feasting and fun. Working together, fishermen and their families would gather and cast large nets into the sea, hauling in a fresh catch to be shared with the entire village. Alii Kai’s Hukilau Dinner Cruise captures the spirit of this joyful event with a seafood feast and dance party aboard the world’s largest Polynesian catamaran.
Served on the catamaran’s panoramic upper deck, the Hukilau seafood platter features Alaskan king crab, jumbo shrimp, clams, mussels, fresh corn, potatoes and Portuguese sausage simmered in a seafood broth, accompanied by wine or locally brewed beer. Passengers also enjoy live music, dancing, vistas of Waikiki’s shoreline, views of the sunset and an authentic Polynesian revue. Friday evening cruises offer an extra treat: an extended sail so guests can enjoy a fireworks display off Waikiki from the catamaran’s vantage point on the water.
Hukilau Dinner Cruise rates start at $93 per adult and $63 per child. Prices include round-trip shuttle transportation to and from Waikiki.
