The Global Business Travel Association (GBTA) has released the latest GBTA BTI Outlook report on Western Europe. Key findings of the study suggest that business travel spending will grow across most of developed Europe over the course of 2013 and into 2014, with Germany recording Europe’s highest business travel spending growth rate, at 5 percent this year.
“In the context of the struggling European economy, our expectations for business travel spending in Western Europe are relatively positive for 2013,” said Catherine McGavrock, regional director for Europe for GBTA. “There are signs of recovery in Germany and the U.K., with both expected to experience growth in business travel spending this year. We believe that this is the beginning of a wider trend in the region and expect growth in business travel spending to accelerate in 2014 to the levels we saw before the Eurozone crisis.”
Less positive findings indicate that the southern economies of Spain and Italy are experiencing a more challenging recovery, with business travel spending expected to fall by 6.2 percent and 2.9 percent, respectively.
