Hawaii Calendar of Events: May 2018

Apr 15, 2018

SPOTLIGHT: OAHU
05.1: Lei Day Celebration. In a tradition dating back to 1927, Hawaii’s famous garland of flowers is feted on the first day of May. In Kapiolani Park, clients hear live music and see displays by some of the most talented lei-makers in the islands.

HAWAII ISLAND
05.18-20: Hawaii Kuauli Pacific and Asia Cultural Festival. This first-ever event celebrates Hawaii’s melting pot of cultures through food, fashion, hula and arts and crafts. Courtyard King Kamehameha’s Kona Beach Hotel hosts the affair, which is designed to appeal to all ages.

05.20: Farm Festival at Hamakua Harvest. Honokaa town, on the island’s rural north side, invites clients to an all-day party supporting local growers. Highlights include hula and a farmers market. For the kids, there are juggling classes, pony rides and a petting zoo.

05.4: Hanapepe Art Night. The little town of Hanapepe shares big love each Friday night, when shops and galleries stay open late and artists show off their creations. Food trucks and kiosks sell tasty treats, and musicians serenade clients as the stars come out.

05.27: Banana Poka Round-Up. Named after one of the invasive plants that damage Kauai’s forests, this free fair makes environmental awareness fun. Kokee State Park sets the stage for Hawaiian tunes, games, crafts, educational exhibits and a rooster-crowing contest.

05.19: Maui Brewers Festival. Maui Arts and Cultural Center’s yearly fundraiser draws upbeat crowds who sip samples of 40 local and national beers. Guests dig into dishes from 16 island restaurants and caterers, vie for door prizes and dance to live bands.

05.31: Hawaiian Music Concert in Lahaina. For the past 10 years, performers have entertained clients for free on the last Thursday evening of each month. Folks stretch out on mats or low beach chairs on the lawn fronting the Baldwin Home Museum.
