Every weekday in the new studio, kumu hula (hula teacher) Kale Pawai leads classes — offered in both Japanese and English — that are designed for beginners as well as advanced dancers. Those who attend the advanced class receive a special certificate of completion.
For business gatherings, the new Hibiscus and Plumeria rooms provide participants with everything necessary to make meetings run smoothly. Equipped with 50-inch plasma televisions, Internet access and video and audio capabilities, the rooms can each accommodate up to 75 guests. For larger get-togethers, the rooms can be combined into one large space holding up to 200 guests.
When the Hibiscus and Plumeria rooms are not in use, clients can stop by to watch a free five-minute documentary on the history of Hawaiian wear, created by renowned island filmmaker Edgy Lee. The movie is screened every 15 minutes, with group showings available in Japanese, Korean and Mandarin.
Named after a popular entertainer in Hawaii in the 1950s and ’60s, Hilo Hattie is a longstanding destination for Hawaiian fashions and gifts. Since 1963, more than 40 million travelers have visited the store, making it the largest shopping attraction in the islands. Clients can pick up resort and casual clothes in hundreds of exclusive prints and styles as well as presents, souvenirs, home and beach accessories, beauty products, gourmet foods and island jewelry. The Oahu location also features a free shell lei greeting, complimentary refreshments, Kona coffee and food tastings, sarong demonstrations, worldwide shipping services and free transportation from Waikiki.
