Resting on 28 acres of pristine beachfront and overlooking the Sea of Cortez, the Sheraton Hacienda Del Mar has been one of Los Cabos’ prime resort destinations for years. It’s also quickly becoming one of the chief locations for business meetings and special events in the area thanks to its central location, spa and leisure offerings.

“With its peaceful, quaint surroundings, our resort provides a luxurious and relaxing destination like none other in the world,” said Renato Mendonca, the general manager.
What really seems to be driving the 270-room, Hacienda-inspired resort beyond its unquestionable beauty is that it boasts a unique combination of individualized service and the largest amount of meeting space in Los Cabos — totaling approximately 16,300-square-feet.
During my stay at the Hacienda Del Mar, I was able to see just how the resort’s commitment to service was applied. Everyone, from the groundskeepers and doormen to the upper management, were remarkably friendly and helpful. Rene Aguado, director of sales and marketing, and his team were incredibly attentive and worked very closely with us to make sure we had the perfect experience. They even helped us plan off-site events, as well as arranged for some nighttime entertainment. For example, after dinner, a troupe of traditional Mexican dancers emerged from the kitchen, drums in hand, and led us out onto the beach where couches and tables had been set up for cocktail service. The dancers, whose number grew significantly, entertained us with fire-wielding stunts and carnival-esque flamboyance while we sipped tequila.
When it comes to fine dining, the Hacienda Del Mar can boast something that no other resort in the region can, the only Five Star Diamond Award restaurant (awarded by the American Academy of Hospitality Sciences) in Los Cabos, Pitahayas Restaurant. The beachfront eatery features nightly live performances of classical music and Pacific-Rim delicacies such as mesquite-grilled lamb chops and pecan-encrusted sea bass with crab and a Thai curry sauce that is sure to leave diners basking in culinary bliss. Pitahayas makes a total of five restaurants on the property, in addition to the Hacienda Del Mar’s five bars, highlighted by La Suerte Tequilla Bar which serves over 100 different brands of tequila.
For those who partake in the timeless tradition of the golfing business meeting, two of the region’s best golf courses, Cabo del Sol Ocean Course and Cabo del Sol Desert Course, are within 10 minutes of the hotel. Also, a variety of other activities from horseback riding, whale watching, ATV tours, deep-sea excursions and more are available through the resort’s concierge.
Nor will your clients be disappointed during those downtimes when they are lounging by the pool or simply resting in their rooms. The elegant architecture is suggestive of an upscale seaside
village and possesses a distinctly Old Mexico feel. Cobblestone lanes wind past a plethora of pools, fountains, cast-iron sculptures and verdant gardens. The buildings are spread gracefully throughout the 28 acres of land, and even at full capacity, there is an unmistakable feel of quietude and freedom.
The Hacienda also boasts a luxurious Cactus Spa, perfect for busy clients to unwind once their meetings are done for the day. The Mexican-style spa offers a myriad of treatments, from massages, facials and body wraps to Vichy Shower-powered hydro massages and salon services. Of its 11 treatment rooms, six are reserved for massages and three for both facials and massages. The spa also offers beachside, poolside and in-room services.
Inside every room is the latest in Sheraton luxury with Sweet Sleeper Beds, private terraces, in-room Jacuzzis, tiled walk-in showers and terracotta tiled floors.
The beautiful color scheme of the guestrooms is designed to blend colors from the natural environment and incorporate them seamlessly into each room: warm browns from the Baja desert, cool blues from the Mexican sky and Sea of Cortez and vivid greens from the gardens.
Undoubtedly, there are so many variables when planning a large business event. You need a location that is both beautiful and functional. You need to have everything at your fingertips without feeling congested. Most importantly, you need a solid team supporting you and helping your clients to create the perfect event. The Sheraton Hacienda Del Mar is all of these things and most importantly all of them at a reasonable cost.
Meet and Greet
Of the Sheraton Hacienda Del Mar’s meeting locations, the grandest is the Hacienda Ballroom. The 12,000-square-foot ballroom can be divided into three sections, providing flexibility for any event as well as multiple decor options. A 3,000-square-foot Los Arcos room and the 1,300-square-foot Chapel are also ideal for business functions. While the chapel is most commonly used for on-site weddings, it can serve as an excellent location for smaller meetings.
In addition to the indoor meeting space, Hacienda Del Mar also has a wealth of outdoor areas — such as gardens, pool decks and terraces — for smaller events.
Of course, picking the perfect location goes well beyond square footage. Anyone who knows about planning an event will tell you there are two primary considerations — cost and service.
“We tailor make all the packages for our guests in groups and incentives,” said Rene Aguado, the director of sales and marketing. “We request all the necessary information from the group organizer and create a specific package for the group, which in the end, is more cost efficient and focuses on the individual needs and objectives of that group.”
For large, onsite events, the Hacienda Del Mar also has a virtual planning service that allows users to create a perfect event — detail by detail — without leaving the comfort of their computer.
