International brands are investing in Mexico’s fast-growing tourism destination, Riviera Nayarit, and the national and regional government is providing strong support, such as investing in several infrastructure projects, including a multi-million dollar highway system.
The road building project will encompass 40 bridges and nine road segments between Tepic and Bucerias, and is expected to positively impact at least 44 tourism developments. The first highway segment will be a 21-mile stretch between San Blas and Tepic, which will shorten driving time between the points by about 20 minutes, according to Ney Gonzalez Sanchez, governor of the state of Nayarit.
Highways and bridges will help tourists efficiently access the region’s new resorts, as well.
One of the newest developments in Riviera Nayarit, opening in October, is the St. Regis Punta Mita. The 120-room resort will feature Punta Mita’s second Jack Nicklaus Signature golf course, two pools and three restaurants. The highlight of the resort will be its 10,000-square-foot spa, Remede, with all the signature services expected from the luxury brand.
Also opening in October, is Dreams Villamagna Nuevo Vallarta — featuring 229 rooms on one of the most serine, untouched beaches in the region — and Riu Palace Pacifico with 445 Junior Suites and Jacuzzi Suites on Flamingos Beach (nine miles from the Puerto Vallarta International Airport).
Resorts scheduled to open in 2009 include Secrets Punta de Mita Resort & Spa and a resort by the leading Spanish hotel company, Iberostar.
Expect big developments in the following year too, as the first destination spa in the 1,500-acre, master-planed Punta Mita resort community, Mii Amo Punta Mita opens its doors.
