If your children’s idea of the perfect after-school snack includes Chocolate Frogs and Butterbeer from the Three Broomsticks pub, you may want to brace them for what Universal Orlando Resort has brewing. In spring 2010, Universal Orlando Resort’s Islands of Adventure park will open a new, themed land, The Wizarding World of Harry Potter, inspired by J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter book series and films. Multiple rides, shops and restaurants are included in the plans, which aim to bring the detailed, fanciful world of Harry Potter to life.

At the entrance to Hogsmeade, the Hogwarts Express chugs its way into Hogsmeade station, signaling that a larger-than-life journey is about to begin. Your “wizards-in-training” can test themselves on the Dragon Challenge, a twin, high-speed roller coaster that incorporates popular elements from Harry’s Triwizard Tournament. A family coaster simulating a Hippogriff training flight over the grounds of Hogwarts castle will keep both parents and kids entertained. And in Hogwarts castle lies yet another attraction — the state-of-the-art Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey ride.
The Wizarding World of Harry Potter will also feature Zonko’s joke shop, selling everything from Extendable Ears to Sneakoscopes; the Hog’s Head pub; the Ollivanders wand shop; and the Owl Post, a one-stop shop for writing and mailing letters marked with a certified Hogsmeade postmark.
