Six out of ten Americans currently planning a summer vacation will not change their travel plans even with the high price of gasoline, according to a travelhorizons survey. This quarterly survey of over 2,200 U.S. adults is co-authored by the Travel Industry Association (TIA) and YPartnership.
The survey also showed that one of six people expecting a tax rebate will spend that money on an overnight or leisure day trip. That means over $12 billion will be spent on travel, explained Roger Dow, TIA president.
For the 40 percent whose plans would change because of high gas prices, most said they'd simply drive shorter distances for their vacation. According to Peter Yesawich, YPartnership's CEO, the survey data confirms that vacations are a non-negotiable part of American life.
