Sustainability and Conservation Lead 2010 Travel Trends

Oct 08, 2009

As the travel industry, and the global economy, begins to rebound, many Americans have travel on the brain. Denver-based Reefs to Rockies (www.reefstorockies.com), a leading boutique tour operator dedicated to exploring and helping biodiversity hotspots, today announces three new trips developed in line with key 2010 travel trends leading industry experts expect to be hot in the coming year.

"At Reefs to Rockies we fully understand that value for money will continue to be a key consideration for travelers into 2010," said Sheridan Samano, co-founder of Reefs to Rockies. "But we are absolutely seeing travelers' strengthened desire to explore and support global biodiversity hotspots through their tourist dollars. At the same time, we're pleased to see many more properties, guides and outfitters across the globe enhance dedication to sustainability and conservation. We are working together with people from Mexico to Africa to develop some fantastic trips for 2010."

Industry experts agree that Value for Money will remain perhaps the number one consideration for Americans planning international travel. Reefs to Rockies, in partnership with the Denver Botanic Gardens, has created an 8-day Monarchs of Michoacán program that features not only the thrilling migration of the Monarchs in Mexico, but luxury properties including historic boutique haciendas for less than $2500 per person. This program also can be booked on an FIT basis from mid-November through mid-March.

Appealing to travelers who seek Active Participation while traveling abroad, Reefs to Rockies' Baja Gray Whale trip, running March 19 - 26, 2010, includes observing the friendly gray whales in San Ignacio Lagoon alongside one of Mexico's most esteemed whale researchers, Oscar Frey. For more information, visit: http://www.reefstorockies.com/pdfs/R2R-Baja-Gray-Whales-with-Oscar-Frey.pdf. This is a great opportunity for travelers to be directly involved in conservation at the side of one of the region's top whale researchers.

Finally, Luxury Adventure Travel is forecast to remain the fastest-growing segment of the travel industry into 2010. As a destination, Botswana has opted for low volume tourism development that focuses on conserving existing wildlife resources with minimal tourism traffic vs. high-density accommodation development. New trips such as Reefs to Rockies' Intimate Botswana include excellent game viewing, expert guides, and luxury accommodations in some of the most remote and wildlife-rich corners of Botswana. These "biodiversity hotspots" offer travelers unparalleled opportunities to view wildlife in their natural environments. The company carefully considers the impact of their activities on the environment and local communities, and they remain committed to promoting the principles of sustainable and responsible tourism. Reefs to Rockies' clients can expect exceptional itineraries, spectacular wildlife, and expert guides. Conservation through tourism.
