With more than 1,200 rooms in three of Jamaica’s top tourist
areas, Sunset Resorts is sporting a new look for the New Year as
2006 was a time of transformation for all of the properties.
Offering a unique, all-inclusive experience, each of Sunset
Resort’s three hotels has something different for clients from the
quiet seclusion of Negril’s Sunset at the Palms to the bustling
atmosphere of the Sunset Jamaica Grande in Ocho Rios.
The 430-room Sunset Beach Resort and Spa in Montego Bay, is the
company’s flagship property, located close to the airport and ideal
for families. The Sunset Jamaica Grande is akin to a sprawling
metropolis, located on one of Ocho Rios’ premier beaches and just
steps from the town and minutes from tourist favorites like the
legendary Dunn’s River Falls. Tucked away in a beautiful garden in
Negril, Sunset at the Palms offers clients a one-of-a-kind
experience with private treehouse-style rooms, an expansive private
beach and all-inclusive convenience.
All three properties debuted new features and sported a
refurbished look by the end of last year, with the Sunset Jamaica
Grande completing the most extensive upgrade. Construction on the
multi-million-dollar upgrade to the property began in the winter of
2005. The property overhaul included an expanded lobby area, which
involved a complete redesign, transforming the space into an
open-air lobby with a grand staircase, a new water feature, a bar
and a reception area.
Three new pools were added to the resort bringing the total to
five. There are now two swim-up bars, as well as plunge pools and a
meandering river with views of the sea.
The resort also constructed a new Entertainment Pavilion that
encompasses Club Mongoose, the kids’ club; and Jamrock and
Jamstone, the new tween and teen clubs; as well as Cafe Jamalicious
and the Lighthouse Pool Bar & Grill, which serve a combination
of Jamaican fare and classic favorites. The pavilion is the place
to be for resort nightlife.
Along with eight new bars, the resort expanded its restaurant
offerings and added the Fitness Factory, a brand-new
air-conditioned health club with Cybex gym equipment and an aerobic
The big deal at Sunset Beach Resort and Spa was the new Pirate’s
Paradise Water Park. Suitable for kids as well as adults, the new
park adds fun for the whole family. Features include a pair of
35-foot-high, 250-foot-long waterslides, as well as over one acre
of swerves, curves, waves and chutes. Also in the park is Bucaneer
Beach, Blackbeard’s Lazy River, the Caribbean Pirate’s Paradise
Fort, waterfalls and two hot tubs. The Pirate’s Cove Teen Center,
the new Club Mongoose for kids, a tennis pavilion and the Beach Bar
& Grill are also located in the new park.
Other minor renovations included a lobby face-lift, a resurfaced
pool area as well as a fresh coat of paint.
Negril’s Sunset at the Palms revamped its 65 treehouse-style
rooms. Cabins were gutted and remodeled to be larger and offer
up-to-date amenities. French doors open onto a private balcony with
sitting area and day bed and a dark wood interior is complemented
by white linens on a king-size platform bed. Bathrooms have been
upgraded to include hair-dryers, vanity mirrors and a multi-head
Apart from the rooms, many of the resorts communal areas have
also been updated. The poolside Bamboo Bar has been redone, as well
as the Palm Grove restaurant. There is a new Beach Bar and Grill
and the recently opened Lotus Leaf restaurant, serving
Asian-infused Jamaican cuisine.
In addition to the new features at the resorts, agents can take
advantage of many different offers for clients and for
First-time passport holders and visitors to Jamaica will be able

staying at any one of the resorts through March 31, and making

For clients with a baby on the way, Sunset Resorts is offering a
