Family Getaways was recently honored by the American Society of Business Publication Editors (ASBPE) with an Azbee Award in the West. Graphic designer Jill Shiffert and Art Director Deborah Dimond won the Gold Award for the design of the feature article, “Culture Shock,” from the Spring 2009 issue of Family Getaways.
Family Getaways was also nominated for a Western Publishing Association (WPA) Maggie Award in two categories, Best New Publication and Best Supplement. The Maggie Awards are the WPA’s annual awards designed to honor “the best in the West” in magazine and electronic publishing.
Family Getaways is a new supplement from the editors of TravelAge West, the largest travel industry trade magazine in the Western U.S.
“We’re so proud of these acknowledgements,” said Editor-in-Chief Kenneth Shapiro. “Family Getaways is a new endeavor, and it means a lot for it to receive such high praise so soon after being launched.”
TravelAge West has won six Maggies in six years, including Most Improved Trade Publication (2005); Best Non-Paid Trade Publication — Under 50,000 Circulation (2005, 2006); Best Supplement (2007); and Best Tabloid/Trade (2008, 2009).
Founded in 1964, the ASBPE is the professional association for full-time and freelance editors and writers employed in the business, trade and specialty press.
The WPA is a non-profit business trade association dedicated to the advancement of the media publishing industry in the western U.S.
