TRAVELAGE WEST HONORED WITH SOCIETY OF AMERICAN TRAVEL WRITERS WESTERN CHAPTER WRITING AWARDS
LOS ANGELES — TravelAge West magazine was recently honored with two writing awards from the Western Chapter of the Society of American Travel Writers (SATW). Maribeth Mellin’s “The Riviera Maya Revs Up” (April 2, 2007) took a Gold award for Best Travel Trade Article, while David Swanson’s “Navigating the Islands” (March 19, 2007) won a Bronze for Best Magazine Self-Illustrated Article.
“I’m very proud of these awards for Maribeth and David,” said Ken Shapiro, Editor-in-Chief of TravelAge West. “They are two of our best writers and anyone in the industry would tell you what consummate authorities they are in Mexico and the Caribbean, so I’m very happy they were acknowledged by their peers in this way.”
Mellin’s article, “The Riviera Maya Revs Up,” gave readers a detailed look into the Riviera Maya region of Mexico, which comprises more than 125 miles of Caribbean coastline and jungle and is booming with tourism and business developments.
Swanson’s article, “Navigating the Islands,” profiled the top 20 Caribbean island destinations, from Anguilla to the U.S. Virgin Islands.
TravelAge West also won two SATW awards last year as well: Swanson won a Gold and Shapiro won a Bronze both in the Best Travel Trade Article category.
The Western Chapter of SATW includes travel editors, writers and public relations representatives in 13 western states. Now in its 47th year, SATW is a professional association whose purpose is to promote responsible journalism, provide professional support and development for members and encourage the conservation and preservation of travel resources worldwide.
