Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport has announced the completion of its North Runway Project, undertaken in conjunction with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), airline partners and contractors.
The FAA, airport and airline staff spent more than six months in preparation for the project, including the construction of the airport’s longest runway, which was completed in 21 days and reaches almost 11,500 feet. Other enhancement features of the $10.6 million dollar project include state-of-the-art lighting, pavement repairs and marking and taxi-way improvements.
More than 250 men and women were involved in the project’s completion, which finished on time and in accordance with FAA regulations and safety guidelines. The airport also worked to keep passenger delays to a minimum during the construction.
“We not only finished this project on time and on budget, but we put 250 people to work and pumped millions of dollars right back into our local economy,” said Greg Stanton, Phoenix mayor.
