The Santa Barbara Car Free Project has come up with a cure for those at risk of suffering from “Carmageddon II,” the Sept. 29-30 closure of the 405 freeway.
“We invite Los Angeles-area residents and visitors to use this freeway closure and traffic as a chance to ‘think outside the car,’” said Mary Byrd, manager of the project led by the Santa Barbara County Air Pollution Control District. “Take a train to Santa Barbara and avoid ‘Carmageddon’ entirely at the end of September; or plan to take a car-free vacation in Santa Barbara in the future. Travel green and save some green.”
Special Carmageddon II Santa Barbara Car Free offers include 20 percent off per rider on biking tours of wine country from I Bike Santa Barbara, a 15 percent discount on room rates at Hotel Oceana and free admission at more than 10 museums on Sept. 29. More offers that will be posted on the Car Free website. Special events will also take place that weekend, including the SOL Food Festival, a celebration of local organic food.
