Japanese cruise operator Mitsui Ocean Cruises has announced its entry into the North American market, marking the first time the 140-year-old company will sell directly to U.S. and Canadian travelers. The company has partnered with Architects of Travel to spearhead its sales and marketing efforts in North America.

The cruise line's flagship vessel, Mitsui Ocean Fuji (formerly Seabourn Odyssey), launched in December 2024. The 32,477-ton ship accommodates 458 guests in all-suite accommodations and features Japanese-inspired amenities throughout.

"With Japan being a top destination to visit from the U.S. and Canada, we're in a unique position to offer a one-of-a-kind cruise vacation which represents true Japanese experiences that only a Japanese company can provide, sailing with Japanese guests and crew, and organically feeling the culture in a way that is genuine to how the locals enjoy leisure travel," said Anthony Kaufman, head of commercial strategies at Mitsui Ocean Cruises.

The all-suite vessel includes four dining venues, featuring an exclusive partnership with chef Kiyomi Mikuni. Onboard amenities include multiple bars and lounges, entertainment venues offering both Western and traditional Japanese performances and the Spa & Wellness Kodama facility.

Cruises include most drinks, Wi-Fi, gratuities and one half-day shore excursion in each port featuring English-speaking guides. Initial itineraries focus on Japan's spring season and summer festivals, with departures from April through September 2025. A 19-day Grand Asia cruise from Hong Kong to Singapore is also available.

"We're thrilled to be working with Mitsui Ocean Cruises, and the luxurious Mitsui Ocean Fuji, delivering a 'travel like a local' experience while sharing Japan's time-honored hospitality with our North American cruise customers," said Suzy Fragnoli, an Architects of Travel executive.

New itineraries for July 2025 to June 2026 will be announced and available for booking in early March 2025.
