The popularity of pickleball knows no bounds on land or at sea, and Bob McDowell, a professional pickleball instructor on lesson search platform TeachMeTo, is now hosting The Pickleball Cruise, affinity voyages dedicated to the sport.

Where will The Pickleball Cruise itineraries go, and on what ships?
Sailings typically go to various islands in the Caribbean and Mexico. Our next cruise is on Royal Caribbean’s Symphony of the Seas, for example.
What can pickleball aficionados expect?
They can anticipate almost daily play (depending on the duration of the cruise) on pickleball courts, which are privately reserved just for The Pickleball Cruise.
Groups are broken out into three different skill levels, and professionals lead drills and teach skills necessary to help improve everyone's game. After some practice, we end each day with games.
At the end of the voyage, there's a big pickleball tournament where medals are awarded, including for the most improved player. The cruise also includes two lecture sessions where various pickleball topics are discussed. Then it concludes with a private happy hour cocktail party.
Can you tell us a little about yourself? How did you come to create The Pickleball Cruise?
I’m a PPR (Professional Pickleball Registry)-certified instructor who has qualified at the highest level (playing level of 4.5+ and pro-level instruction). I’ve been playing for more than nine years and offering instruction for more than four years.

What makes pickleball and cruising a good pairing?
There will be lots of food, drinks and partying, but two hours of laughs and exercise in the morning is the perfect way to start the day. It’s also a great way to get to know new people from all over the United States that enjoy the game. Pickleball on a cruise is a healthy, social activity that can lead to an even more fulfilling cruise experience.
How many cruises have you helmed already?
There have been 11 cruises, and the sailing on Nov. 9, 2025, will be the 12th. February 2026 pickleball cruises are also in the works, with information available soon.
How much does the cruise cost, and what staterooms are available?
Rates change with each sailing.
For the cruise departing November 9, bookings must be made through TravelGroup International. Interior staterooms start at $1,359, Boardwalk Balcony rooms start at $1,499 and Oceanview Balcony cabins start at $1,599.
What’s included in the price?
Rates are per person and include the cruise, all taxes and the Pickleball Package (non-players receive a $200 discount). Gratuities and alcohol are not included.
