Been There, Do This: Frenchie to Go Cafe in Paris

Sep 07, 2016

Fact: If you ever find me at a baseball game, I will either have eaten, or am in the process of eating, at least one hot dog (sometimes two and, once upon a regrettable time, three).

But in this particular instance of hot dog consumption, I wasn't among a sea of fans positioned on aluminum stands and rooting for their home team. Instead, I was in a distant city better known for its promise of passionate love, nostalgic architecture and culinary offerings (including duck confit, croissants, macarons and steak frites): Paris.

Some might declare that eating a hot dog in Paris of all places is sacrilegious, but curb your judgement until you've ordered your own at Frenchie to Go, which features a bun from renowned Parisian baker Gontran Cherrier, a hot dog with 100-percent smoked Shorthorn beef, house-made sauerkraut and an artistic-looking drizzle of Savora sauce (a French mustard).

Located in the city's 2nd arrondissement, the casual sister cafe to fine-dining restaurant Frenchie offers additional modern French twists on traditional American grub. Also on the menu is a pulled pork sandwich with a Gontran Cherrier bun, a Reuben sandwich with rye bread, a pastrami sandwich with rye bread and a lobster roll on toasted brioche. And, of course, there's plenty of French fries.

Frenchie to Go is open 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
