The Swiss love chocolate, so it’s no surprise that some of the best chocolate-makers in the world come from the country. Beschle, based in Basel, Switzerland, is a boutique chocolatier that makes very high-end (and very delicious) treats. Now, visitors can spend some time learning about the world of chocolate — including the secrets of growing, producing and, best of all, eating it — and cap off the experience by making their own chocolate bars to take home.
Workshops, which include a guided tour, a tasting and chocolate-making, take place twice a month at Beschle’s headquarters, but groups with a minimum of 10 people can book an exclusive workshop at other times. The whole experience takes about two hours. Not surprisingly, the activity has been an especially big hit with kids and multigenerational families. As Basel is a major river cruise port, the chocolatier is seeing more passengers stop by to try their hands at being Willy Wonka for a day.
