A Sneak Peek of Montage Deer Valley

Dec 02, 2010

While Montage Deer Valley ski resort is not scheduled to open until Dec. 9, I recently had a chance to take an exclusive sneak peek at the sprawling luxury property, located in Park City, Utah. From what I saw, the resort, like its sister properties — Montage Beverly Hills and Montage Laguna Beach — will certainly become a haven for luxury travelers, especially ski enthusiasts, spa lovers and families.

Although some finishing touches were still being applied to the resort during my visit, much of the property was fairly complete and, even in its unfinished state, the resort was impressive in its rustic decor, space and unique — truly personable — features.

One of my favorite features about the Montage Deer Valley was its true adherence to the concept of ski-in and ski-out accessibility. Three different ski lifts can be found within walking distance of the hotel, and the resort will house its very own Compass Sports complex that enables guests to be outfitted with all of their ski gear with ease. The 7,000-square-foot facility, which is located inside the resort, will feature mountain hosts to personally assist each guest with their ski needs, from customizing their ski selections to booking lessons, all of which is carried out electronically and efficiently via a network of iPads.

Another highlight included the massive 35,000 square-foot Spa Montage which features an indoor lap pool, an outdoor pool with a private sundeck, 29 treatment rooms, a fully-equipped fitness center and a full-service salon. Like other Spa Montage facilities, this spa is exquisitely designed and offers spa goers and guests unparalleled views of the surrounding mountains.

Another key feature of the resort is its many recreational offerings apart from skiing. At the on-site gastropub, Daly’s Pub & Rec, guests can bowl at the four-lane bowling alley, play vintage video games in the adjacent arcade, throw darts and play billiards as they kick back a few pints of the resort’s very own Montage Mountain Ale or Monty’s Belgian White Ale, both of which are brewed in Park City by the local Wasatch Brewery, located on Main Street. “Monty” also happens to be the name of the resort’s resident Bernese Mountain dog, a lovable and extremely friendly puppy who will live at the hotel.

While I was not able to see a guestroom during my visit, I was able to examine some of the Montage Deer Valley Residences which occupy the top floors of the resort. Owners of these luxury residences, which range in size from one- to four-bedrooms, may opt in to a rental program that allows travel agents to book the residence lodgings for large groups and families with commission. If the residences were any indication of the luxury touches to be found within the guestrooms, I am fairly certain that the guestrooms will not disappoint.

When complete, the resort will offer 154 deluxe guestrooms and more than 66 suites and residences. The average size of a guestroom is 600 square feet, while suites range in size from 1,000 to 3,200 square feet. All accommodations will feature gas fireplaces; mountain or valley views; a private balcony or patio; stone bathrooms with separate showers, soaking tubs and heated floors; high-speed Wi-Fi; LCD flat-screen televisions; and DVD/CD players.

With the upcoming holiday and winter ski season fast approaching, as well as the Sundance Film Festival in January, I have no doubt that the new Montage Deer Valley will be the hotel of choice for luxury travelers in the coming months.
