While there are many unique hotel properties in Fairbanks, Alaska, Rivers Edge Resort is one worth remembering if your clients plan to visit the area.
This property is not a flashy one. Instead, it offers urban accommodations and facilities for most every type of traveler, but with access to wildlife and scenery as well.
As guests pull into the Rivers Edge Resort’s main parking lot, a short drive from Fairbanks International Airport, garden and riverfront cottages come into view. Cottages are accentuated with hanging flower baskets, flowering gardens and groomed walkways with the Chena River meandering less than 60 yards away. From my private deck, I could see a variety of wildlife along the riverbanks, including mink, muskrat and waterfowl.
The inside decor of the river cabin is friendly Alaskana, with meticulous woodwork and quilts, two queen beds, well-appointed baths and heavy-duty curtains to block out the near 24 hours of summer daylight for a good night’s sleep. The deck has great chairs for kicking back with morning coffee and watching the river wildlife.
Lodge suites are available in the main hotel property, along with ample business facilities.
My evening time inside the cottage was delightfully quiet, which was surprising as the resort is located within walking distance of two major shopping centers.
The on-site dining is at the Chena Alaskan Grill Restaurant, which offers fine seafood and Alaska-based menus prepared by an executive chef. I recommend avoiding regular dining times because the restaurant can get busy with both locals and tourists. Ask for an outside table for the best view of the river.
For RVs, the resort’s nearby Chena RV Park hosts over 170 sites. The well-maintained property grounds have clean offices, well-stocked gift shops, spotless bathrooms and handy laundry facilities.
