What: Coeur d’Alene Resort has long been a family favorite thanks to its indoor and outdoor pools, pretty beaches and land and water activities. Now, just in time for the busy summer season from July through August, the resort is introducing daily Pirates of the Coeur d’Alene cruises ($29 per adult, $19 per child). During the 90-minute excursions, actors dressed in pirate outfits get kids involved in face painting, dancing and snacks, then present them with a souvenir booty. Families planning ahead for an end-of-year Coeur d’Alene vacation will want to check out the Holiday in Lights celebration — running from Thanksgiving weekend through January — when the resort glows with 250 displays and 1.5 million lights. Over the holidays, families can take boat rides to see the world’s-tallest living Christmas tree, a 162-foot grand fir decorated with 40,000 lights and topped with a 10-foot-tall star.
Where: The only hotel on Idaho’s 50-square-mile Lake Coeur d’Alene, the resort is located in the heart of downtown Coeur d’Alene, which means guests can easily walk to shopping and dining areas. Heaps of summer activities await right outside its doors, like boat tours, jet-skiing, speed boat rides, kayaking, swimming, biking and hiking. The adjacent Tubbs Hill nature area stands ready with forested family-friendly trails, and just 20 minutes away are the rides and shows of Silverwood Theme Park, open daily from May 1 through Labor Day and on weekends in October.
Guestrooms: The 338-unit resort offers lakefront and lakeview rooms and suites. Premier rooms, measuring 500 square feet, are the most spacious accommodations, making them perfect for families. They adjoin the room next door by a vestibule, offering both privacy and ease of accessibility between the rooms.
