Hilton Hotels Corp. is planning to nearly double the number of
hotels within its various brands in Mexico over the next two years.
With 14 properties currently representing more than 2,776 rooms
and suites, Hilton is scheduled to add another 13 properties by
2006. Eleven of those properties are under development,
representing a $170 million investment.
The new hotels will be divided among four brands: three Hiltons,
two Embassy Suites, three Hilton Garden Inns and three Hampton
Inns.
Among them is the first Embassy Suites-brand property in Mexico,
which is scheduled to open in Mexico City’s business district in
the first quarter of 2005. The 18-story, 162-suite hotel will be
managed by Landmark Hotels of San Mateo, Calif., and owned by
Promotora Paseo de la Reforma S. de R.L. De D.C. of Mexico
City.
Amenities will include complimentary cooked-to-order breakfast,
high-speed Internet access, a pool, four board rooms and an evening
Manager’s Reception. The hotel will also offer conference suites,
which will have a bedroom/living room design with an adjoining
conference room seating up to six people.
The hotel is on the Paseo de la Reforma near the monument to
Christopher Columbus, the historic district, Zona Rosa and many
embassies.
“We are thrilled to work with Promotora Paseo de la Reforma and
Landmark Hotels to bring an Embassy Suites Hotel to Mexico,” said
David Greydanus, senior vice president, brand management, Embassy
Suites Hotels. “A phenomenal location in the heart of Mexico City’s
financial district and the brand’s ability to cater to the business
and leisure traveler represent a powerful combination that will
contribute to the success of this hotel.”
Hilton is also investing about $8 million to renovate the Hilton
Cancun Beach & Golf Resort by the end of this year.
The 426 oceanview rooms will be redone to enhance the Caribbean
atmosphere. The two restaurants, Mitachi and Spices, will be
redesigned. Two lighted tennis courts will be added, as well as a
professional-level soccer field, and a golf course with driving
range, new fairways and greens enhanced by landscaping with
tropical plants. And the hotel will also have a new Grand Spa
offering a wide range of treatments.
