Oahu's tourist mecca of Waikiki lays claim to plenty of splashy hangouts, from shimmering infinity pools to action-packed super pools. But now there's a new game in town: the renovated Tapa Pool at Hilton Hawaiian Village Waikiki Beach Resort.
After a seven-month, $4.3 million rejuvenation, the cool gathering place looks and feels as good as any aquatic oasis in the destination. The pool deck space was expanded by more than 20 percent and now boasts 127 chaise lounges and 3,000 square feet of natural stone surrounded by lush landscaping.
The pool has been completely retiled with Oceanside Glasstile, a sustainable product that uses more than 86 percent recycled material. Thanks to its handcrafted nature and iridescent colors, the tile adds a stunning effect to the pool.
Other additions include water features and six private cabanas.
Guests at the Tapa Pool can listen to the live Hawaiian music offered nightly at the adjacent Tapa Bar. Clients can also charge beverages and light meals to their rooms while at the pool. Pool hours are 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily.
The Tapa Pool is one of five resort pools at the Hilton Hawaiian Village, which also features the 10,000-square-foot Super Pool; Paradise Pool with Waikiki's longest water slide; Kalia Pool; and the private Alii Tower Pool.
In addition, the adjacent five-acre Duke Kahanamoku Lagoon is considered a local treasure. The lagoon's calm waters and picturesque setting make it a great place to rent kayaks or learn how to stand-up paddleboard.
