Hitting the Slopes at Vail Cascade Resort

Dec 04, 2011

Vail Cascade resort is not a new property but, if you still haven’t heard about it, get ready to. Over the last year, the property has been raking in accolades from Conde Nast Traveler and USA Today among other publications. It’s been named one of the top 500 hotels in the world by Travel + Leisure, and Denver Magazine named the resort’s Aria Spa one of the best in the state.

As one of Vail, Colo.’s premier resorts, Vail Cascade offers something for every traveler — from health and wellness and incentive groups to skiers and snowboarders. Winter sports are arguably Vail’s top attraction.

Vail Cascade offers ski-in, ski-out access. The property is adjacent to chairlift 20, which is just steps from the property, making it an ideal location for skiers and snowboarders who want to make it to the mountain for first tracks.

Hotel rooms, which range from Standard Rooms to a Presidential Suite, are spacious and functional, especially for skiers. Standard rooms have approximately 300 square feet of living space, two queen-size beds or one king-size bed and a pull-out couch. Clients can also book one of the suite categories, which range in size from 600 square feet to 1,000 square feet in the Presidential Suite. These rooms feature a range of upgrades, including large living spaces and fabulous views.

The hotel also features the 78,000-square-foot Aria Spa & Club, which offers everything from massage treatments and fitness to childcare services. The spa has 14 treatment rooms, a couple’s spa suite, manicure and pedicure stations, a spa boutique and more. The fitness club is one of Vail’s largest and offers a variety of classes from yoga to indoor tennis and a variety of equipment such as treadmills and elliptical machines.

Childcare services include daycare while parents use the fitness or spa facilities and is available for children ages 6 months to 8 years old. The resort also features KidVenture for children ages 5 to 12. The program offers fun, daily activities supervised by an experienced staff.

While staying at Vail Cascade Resort with my family, our favorite feature, apart from the skiing, was the outdoor, black-bottom saltwater pool. We literally spent an afternoon swimming as cotton-ball-size snowflakes fell from the sky.

Although the resort has easy access to the slopes, getting to ski lessons, located on the opposite side of the mountain, is another story. However, the hotel offers convenient shuttle service to the main areas of Vail Resort and drops guests off in front of the many different lodges. The shuttle also provides convenient access to shopping and dining facilities.

While guests can dine off property, the hotel features Atwater on Gore Creek, with stunning views of the creek and a menu featuring creative American cuisine. The Fireside Bar is the perfect place to enjoy an apres ski beverage, and Half-Pipe Pizza is great for a snack. Visitors can also stock up on necessities at the Cascade Village Market — making the resort feel even more like home.
