Hotel Del Coronado Introduces Del Beach

Jun 24, 2014
delbeachfeat

The iconic Hotel Del Coronado in San Diego has consistently ranked as one of the best hotels in the world, and it also sits on an equally lauded stretch of beach.

Since May 1, the legendary property has taken the Coronado Beach experience to a whole new level with the introduction of the full-service package titled “Del Beach.” It won’t be long before Del Beach’s fringed red beach umbrellas are just as recognizable as the hotel’s signature red roof.

Something for Everyone
In addition to cushioned lounge chairs, half-moon “cabanettes” and plush day beds, Del Beach offers food (such as salads and sandwiches) and full bar service right on the sand. Beach seating options and fare are an additional cost, with full-day lounge chair rentals starting at $18 during high season.

What’s more, Del Beach has introduced recreational activities for everyone in the family, including rentals of bikes, surreys, boogie boards, surfboards, stand-up paddleboards and kayaks, as well as an interactive beach playground just for kids. Sand toys, Frisbees, beach balls and sun care products are available for purchase.

Guests can also partake in a variety of classes, from Hatha yoga (seasonal and free for overnight guests) to surfing or paddleboarding (prices range from $90-120 per lesson).

Roast at the Del
Del Beach is the first West Coast operation to be managed by the Miami-based Boucher Brothers, a hospitality management company responsible for setting up and overseeing the beach from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. each day.

But the beach fun doesn’t stop when the sun goes down. Guests can enjoy “Roast - S’mores on the Beach” under the stars; prices start at $135. The offer includes all of the graham crackers, chocolate and marshmallows one can eat, plus beach chairs and expert bonfire tending by the Del’s helpful staff of “s’mores technicians.” Guests who want to enhance the already sweet experience can add extra ingredients, such as peanut butter cups, Nutella or cinnamon graham crackers (prices start at an additional $10 per person for a selection of five ingredients).

Ever since its opening date in 1888, Coronado Beach has been a mecca for fun and relaxation.

“Even then, vacationers understood that salt water and sea air are inherently healthy, and believed that ocean retreats could restore mind, body and soul — so 19th century travelers gravitated toward oceanside locales,” said Christine Donovan, the resort’s historian.
