Hyatt Regency New Orleans Gets Four Diamonds

May 25, 2012

After a $275 million revitalization project in 2011 that resulted in the redesign of its 1,193 guestrooms and suites, 200,000 square feet of meeting and event space and an exciting new restaurant, Hyatt Regency New Orleans has been awarded the prestigious AAA Four-Diamond Award.

“We spared no detail in positioning ourselves to be the quintessential hotel for conventions, leisure and business travelers alike and receiving the Four Diamond Award is a testament to this,” said general manager Michael Smith. “We are committed to providing guests a wonderful experience when they visit New Orleans and it is an honor to be awarded this esteemed ranking.”

As part of the new redesign, Hyatt Regency has brought in one of the premier celebrity Chefs in New Orleans, James Beard award-winning John Besh to open his newest restaurant, Borgne, in the hotel. Featuring casual coastal Louisiana seafood with a Spanish twist, the restaurant gets its name from the nearby lake that comprises the largest saltwater estuary of the Gulf of Mexico. Borgne’s menu reflects this tribute to the Gulf and features fresh locally sourced Gulf seafood in dishes such as Diez Garlic Clove Louisiana White shrimp and P&J Oysters Amandine. In addition, the menu at Borgne also showcases dishes created by Chef de Cuisine Brian Landry, a New Orleans native and formally a chef at Galatoire’s and Louisiana Seafood. Landry utilizes fresh local seafood in his Oyster Spaghetti with Bottarga and his Blue Crab Bisque.

Raised in Southern Louisiana, John Besh continues to be committed to rebuilding the city of New Orleans. By showcasing Gulf Seafood and honoring its place in the cuisine of the city, Besh hopes Borgne will attract both locals and visitors alike. Because of this, Borgne (like other John Besh restaurants), offers the traditional “Besh Happy Hour” seven days a week from 3pm – 6pm serving rotating specials and half-price beer, wine and cocktails.

In addition to the major revitalization of the hotel and the introduction of the new Besh restaurant, the Hyatt Regency has also recently added a Roomlinx system, which allows guests access to entertainment, local information and hotel services from the comfort of their room. Starting with a personalized greeting when guests arrive, Roomlinx lets them browse the Internet, manage and print documents, make hotel room service and housekeeping requests and even obtain local information and directions or make dining reservations. Meeting and group organizers can also use this advanced technology to send custom private messages directly to the rooms of all the members of their group.
