New All-Inclusive in Baja

Jun 01, 2004
Los Cabos has a new all-inclusive resort.

The Grand Baja Resort & Spa opened in March in the village of San Jose del Cabo, about a 10-minute drive from the Los Cabos airport, on secluded beachfront property with tropical gardens that surround lagoon pools and waterfalls. The village is at the tip of the Baja California peninsula, where the Sea of Cortez meets the Pacific Ocean.

The 252 rooms and suites range from one-bedroom deluxe guestrooms to four-bedroom suites for the entire family. Full-size kitchens with cookware and modern appliances are available in some rooms, and an onsite deli mini-market allows families to eat in when they choose, though the resort also has three restaurants.

The Grand Baja offers a wide variety of outdoor activities, including sport-fishing, ATV riding, whale watching, sunset cruises, diving and snorkeling. An 18-hole putting green is available, as well as a mini-golf circuit for kids. There’s also a Kids Club for children ages 4 to 12, and a free-form pool with two Jacuzzis can be reached by footbridge.

Grand Baja also has a spa that offers organic and holistic treatments, including a traditional Aztec Temazcal purifying ceremony offered on a “spa island” surrounded by shallow lagoons and waterfalls.

The resort offers an on-site wedding coordinator, and there is 2,300 square feet of meeting and banquet space for moderate-sized incentive groups.

As an added value, the Grand Baja is including eight consecutive hours of complimentary car rental in the inclusive price, with the option of extended rental at a 30 percent discount. Guests also can choose a complimentary guided shopping tour to Cabo San Lucas, and two hours of baby care per day to allow parents quality time at one of the onsite restaurants.

“We take all-inclusive to new heights with special complimentary features that make guests feel completely at home and aren’t offered at other hotels,” said Luis Fernando Sanchez Tena, director of sales and marketing. “Our goal is to keep people pleasantly surprised by the incredible value and superior quality we give them at no additional cost.”

Rates range from $140 to $1,200. The fourth and seventh nights are free as part of a special grand opening promotion, and agent rates are available for 50 percent off.

The Grand Baja is offering a Sweet Summer Special: Families up to six can stay in a two-bedroom Royal Suite for $58 per person on the European Plan, or the all-inclusive plan for $75 for adults and children over 13, and $65 for kids 6-12. Children under 5 eat, stay and play free.
