With the goal of opening before Christmas, the three newest hotels
in Palace Resorts’ Mexico portfolio are scheduled for extensive
refurbishments this year.
The Playacar Palace, which was previously known as the Hotel
Continental Plaza Playacar, and the Cozumel Palace, formerly the
Hotel Plaza Las Glorias Cozumel, closed for renovations in August.
Officials plan to reopen both properties on Dec. 24.
Vallarta Palace, formerly the Hotel Sierra Nuevo Vallarta, will
remain open during its renovation.
At the Playacar Palace, which has 220 rooms, the lobby, pool and
common areas will be renovated, and Jacuzzis will be added to all
rooms. The resort is aiming for the golf traveler with its
proximity to the Palace-owned Robert Von Hagge Golf Course at
Playacar on the Yucatan peninsula. Also nearby is the Jack Nicklaus
Signature Golf Course in Cancun.
Cozumel Palace will also see the addition of Jacuzzis to the 174
rooms, and the lobby, pool and common areas will be redone to
reflect a combination of colonial and contemporary Mexican decor. A
diver’s paradise where snorkeling and diving is available right off
the beach, the Cozumel Palace also offers guests exchange
privileges to visit other Palace resorts in the Riviera Maya and
Cancun.
Common areas will also be refurbished at the Vallarta Palace on
the West coast. Meeting facilities will be expanded, and all
ocean-view rooms will feature a double Jacuzzi.
Formerly European-plan properties, the resorts will be converted
to all-inclusive plans. The all-inclusive packages at Palace
Resorts include accommodations, taxes and tips, all meals and
snacks, alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, non-motorized
watersports, nightly entertainment and tours. Golf packages are
available at all resorts and wedding packages are available at
some.
“We are thrilled to add these properties to our portfolio of
quality resorts and offer our clients a new selection of properties
in new and exciting destinations,” said Roberto Chapur, president
of Palace Resorts.
Palace Resorts bought the three properties from Grupo Sidek
Situr earlier this year. In Mexico, Palace now operates 10 resorts
in Cancun, the Riviera Maya, Cozumel and Nuevo Vallarta.
