Quebec Resorts' One-Stop Shop for the Perfect Cozy Inn

Nov 28, 2007
Dine overlooking a waterfall, snuggle by your in-room fireplace, enjoy the relaxing spa, dog-sled by day, casino at night. Where do you find accommodations with such varied activities? Look no further than ResortsQuebec.com, where 25 charming auberges in Canada’s Quebec province are displayed in minute detail.

Descriptive pages and photos are well defined in both the catalog and on the Web so that agents can sell with confidence. If you know your clients’ expectations and their price range, Resorts Quebec can suggests an inn, provide area details and book the appropriate property for you. Member inns adhere to top standards, offer the best in dining menus and integrate with their surroundings.

Each of the six inns I experienced also had high-tech features like data ports and DVD/CD players, as well as iron and board, robes, minibars and more. The establishments ranged in size from 22 to 71 rooms, and every manager placed strong emphasis on making a personal connection with the staff.

For example, Wakefield Mill Inn & Spa in Gatineau Park exudes country charm with its weathered board-and-stone exterior and rushing waterfalls. This former flour mill proudly incorporated original old beams and artifacts into its individualized rooms. Those fascinating falls are viewed from most rooms, all dining areas, decks, pool and spa. Woodland trails lead to a restored covered bridge and a lake for kayaking. The tiny town of Wakefield boasts art and antique shops, a general store, and the last remaining hand-operated turnaround for the steam railroad operating between Wakefield and Hull. A unique package includes roundtrip transport by steam train. Staff meets the train and drives guests to the inn.

Halfway between Montreal and Quebec City, l’Auberge Lac St. Pierre resembles a rambling English country estate. Its wide lawns, lakeside gazebo and striking lobby conservatory offer views of the St. Lawrence River. Mouthwatering meals included my most memorable fettuccini dish. An intriguing tour explores the dungeons of nearby Old Prison, led by former inmates who relate tales of prison life.

Guests staying at Auberge des Falaises or Auberge des Peupliers enjoy an abundance of food produced in fertile Charlevoix along the upper St. Laurence. Samples of internationally-admired Migneron de Charlevoix are offered at local cheese makers. Golf, a huge casino, dog sledding and whale watching keep guests occupied in all seasons.

Rates at inns mentioned, commissionable at 10 percent and including several meals, range from $103 to $206 per person, per night, double, plus taxes. One-stop shopping at its best.
