The Red Carnation Hotel Collection has announced the company’s acquisition of the five-star luxury hotel Ashford Castle in the west of Ireland. The property has a long and rich heritage dating back to the 13th century. It was a Guinness family home from 1855 until 1939, when Ashford Castle made the transformation into being a hotel. The castle is presently a member of Leading Hotels of the World. It attracts visitors from around the globe, and former visitors to Ashford include Oscar Wilde, John Lennon, President Reagan, Pierce Brosnan and Brad Pitt.
The Red Carnation Hotel Collection is an award-winning collection of five- and four-star family-run boutique hotels in London, Dorset and Guernsey in Great Britain; Switzerland; Ireland; and other destinations.
“We are thrilled to have Ashford Castle as part of our collection and welcome the whole team to the Red Carnation family,” said Beatrice Tollman, president and founder of The Red Carnation Hotel Collection. “Like the rest of our hotels, Ashford Castle is an iconic property, in a unique location and with a reputation for luxury and excellence, and we are delighted that we will be bringing some of Red Carnation’s signature touches to it.”
The castle includes 83 bedrooms, a dining room, a bar, a drawing room, private dining rooms and a spa. Along with the gardens and grounds, there is a nine-hole golf course on the estate. Activities available on the estate include falconry, boat trips, horseback riding and fishing.
“We look forward to working with Ashford’s general manager Niall Rochford and his excellent team and also to seeking the best local talent to grow the workforce,” said Jonathan Raggett, managing director, The Red Carnation Hotel Collection. “We will be working with local suppliers and partners on a refurbishment program that will restore this illustrious hotel to its former glory and build on the fine reputation that the hotel already enjoys.”
