Despite its size, when it opens in January 2003, the 240-suite
Marquis Los Cabos: A Resort For All Senses promises tranquility.
“It’s not going to be a rah-rah hotel, it’s going to be quite
calm. You’re going to be able to hear yourself think when you’re
sitting beside the pool,” said Ella Messerli, general manager.
The luxury hotel will be the second property owned and operated
by the Mexican owners of the Marquis Reforma hotel in Mexico
City.
Located on the Los Cabos Corridor, the hotel will have 30
private casitas and five Suites Marquis with private swimming
pools. Three large infinity pools, a fitness center and a
full-service spa will provide oceanfront views.
The 205 junior suites will be in the main hotel building.
Two-story casita buildings around the pool areas will have one
upper and one lower casita per building. Each one-bedroom casita
will include a living room, a dining room, a small wet area, a
large terrace and a private pool.
The casitas, suites and junior suites will be enhanced by
Bulgari bathroom amenities, Frette bed linens and a double-door
niche through which continental breakfast will be served. All rooms
will have broadband Internet connections.
Facing the ocean in a garden area next to the main adult pool
will be 11 private, tent-style cabanas, with telephone and Internet
connections for.
Messerli advises travel agents to make reservations for cabana
and other special activities such as golf when booking rooms.
However, the one-stop golf concierge, located in a section of the
lobby, will be a golf pro who will advise clients, rent their
equipment and book preferential rate greens fees at all Los Cabos
area courses, including the adjacent ones at El Dorado and Cabo
Real.
A 50-foot high rappelling wall for the adventurous will dominate
the fitness center.
The 26,910-square foot full-service spa will borrow from
pre-Hispanic and holistic tradition for muds and Baja California
plant and cactus treatments.
Room service will be offered 24 hours a day.
The property has two restaurants: the Vista Ballenas offering
international and European cuisine and the poolside Dos Mares
offering casual fare.
Travel agents may book clients into the 20-seat Canto del Mar,
where the property’s French executive chef, trained in two-star
Michelin restaurants, will suggest gourmet menus based on available
fresh ingredients and prepared according to guest preferences.
Meetings, Etc.
The 25-foot-high, 7,535-square-foot Grand Ballroom will seat 800
banquet-style. Four other meeting rooms with movable walls can be
combined for a second meeting or a reception area with Sea of
Cortes views. The size of the ballroom will attract the attention
of planners for meetings and incentives events, but the atmosphere
will be low-key.
“Travel agents’ clients aren’t coming to a convention center
here,” Messerli said. “The layout of the hotel is such that we will
be able to accommodate groups in the hotel and in certain public
areas without disturbing the casitas or the main adult pool
area.”
Travel agents are paid a 10% commission on rack rates and
packages. Call 877-238-9399.
