The Renovated Renaissance Palm Springs

As summer winds down, the fall and winter high season in Palm Springs is just around the corner. For clients who prefer to be in the heart of the action, agents should consider the Renaissance Palm Springs Hotel, which is fresh off of a property-wide, multi-million dollar renovation, completed in June, when the hotel was transformed from a Wyndham to a Renaissance.

The five-floor, 410-room property is located three blocks from Palm Canyon Drive — the city’s main drag — which is close enough to be a part of the city’s nightlife, but not so close that there’s any disturbance due to noise or commotion on the strip.

In addition, the hotel is literally attached to the Palm Springs Convention Center, so it’s ideal for business groups as well. The weekend I visited the property, there were numerous small groups utilizing the meeting and convention space at the hotel and holding get-togethers near the property’s expansive outdoor pool area.

In fact, the pool area is one of the hotel’s most unique features. At 24,000 square feet, the courtyard is one of the largest I’ve seen in the Coachella Valley. (The hotel claims the pool itself is the largest in Palm Springs.) The courtyard features a whirlpool, a children’s sand and pool area, private cabanas and plenty of additional space that can be used for hosting a variety of outdoor events. The hotel utilizes some of that space during weekend evenings by showing movies that are viewable from the water.

The guestrooms at the Renaissance Palm Springs Hotel have all been recently renovated as well. The decor is sunny and contemporary, with playful pops of color sprinkled throughout. Rooms are spacious and comfortable, and feature all the modern amenities, such as flat-screen televisions, iPod docking stations, wireless Internet and more.

The main dining option at the hotel is Date, while Rocks is the hotel’s lobby bar (with a limited version of the Date food menu available). The livelier venue is definitely Rocks, which transforms into a bustling meeting spot in the evenings. During my visit, people gathered around a dramatic, elongated, outdoor fire pit, sipping on cocktails, as a very convincing Sinatra impersonator crooned the standards.

In another part of the lobby, there’s a lounge with a Wii console and a big-screen monitor set up for guests. There are also plenty of comfortable lounging spots and conversation nooks sprinkled throughout the common area.

The Renaissance Palm Springs is a versatile property — offering agents a great option for leisure travelers, including families; business travelers; and special occasion groups.
