Westin Hotels & Resorts announced the official opening of
its first resort in Malaysia. Formerly the Sheraton Perdana Resort,
The Westin Langkawi Resort & Spa opened last month, following a
comprehensive renovation and addition of luxury residential villas
and extensive state-of-the-art meeting facilities.
The opening of The Westin Langkawi Resort & Spa continues
the expansion of Westin’s footprint in Asia Pacific, following the
opening of The Westin Beijing, Financial Street in late September.
The Westin Langkawi Resort & Spa joins the Sheraton Langkawi
Beach Resort as the second Starwood property in this Malaysian
island destination.
“The Westin Langkawi Resort & Spa will set a new standard of
hospitality as the first Westin in Malaysia,” said Miguel Ko,
president of Starwood Hotels, Asia Pacific. “The tranquility of
this idyllic island oasis combined with Westin’s sumptuous
accommodations provides an incomparable retreat from the rigors of
travel, while facilitating relaxation and restoration of the mind,
body and spirit.”
Set on 104 acres of tropical gardens and framed by mountain
peaks, The Westin features 202 newly refurbished guestrooms and
suites, with 20 Ocean View Pool Villas, boasting panoramic views of
the Andaman Sea, woodlands and tropical gardens. All guestrooms
offer 42-inch plasma TVs with satellite channels, a DVD player and
a surround-sound system. High-speed broadband Internet access is
available in the resort’s lobby, guestrooms and in all common
areas.
Taste, the new specialty buffet restaurant, offers an extensive
menu, while the Breeze lounge features live entertainment from the
resident band “De Java’s.” Guests can also dine by starlight while
savoring Mediterranean cuisine at Tide, or enjoy a mojito cocktail
at Splash, the pool bar.
The property also offers state-of-the-art meeting facilities and
seven conference and banquet suites. The Westin Grand Ballroom can
accommodate receptions and theater-style conferences for 400 guests
and dinner dances for 180 guests.
Guests can also avail themselves of the resort’s water sports,
squash, tennis, infinity swimming pool, ocean-front pool, Jacuzzi
and sauna.
Located in Kedah state at the northern tip of Malaysia, Langkawi
is a one hour flight from Kuala Lumpur.
